One secret kept away from most small businesses, when they are creating their business websites, for their home based business is that; the content on your website is the most important aspect oif the website, great content will not only improve your ranking and increase your traffic, it will deliver customer loyalty and have people coming back to your site.

In the internet marketing arena it has been said for many years that “CONTENT IS KING”. Never before has a more true statment be said. Content is King is still relevant, as it was 5 years ago and google will look at your content and decide if your content is worth putting into their index.

Content (or More specifically, the lack of content) has been the biggest probem to not ranking in google. Many Businesses were told during the 90′s that they had to have a website, so all of the techo’s and the sale people went pushing the creation of these brochure style websites, and in some cases tens of thousands was spent developing the pretty and flash websites. These small business websites, looked nice to people, and possibly used the latest techniques and technology, but they did not rank in google. WHY….??? The websites did not have any content.

Having great Content on your site is just the first step, and as a home based business, you need to explore every other avenue you can get a source of traffic to your website. Some of these will include items such as article marketing, social bookmarking, link building, utilisation of web2.0 properties, press releases, directory submission, video promotion, local marketing, email marketing and direct marketing.

To believe; one avenue alone will increase your traffic, and help your web rank higher in the search engines is a false belief. One strategy alone will not generate any significant amount of traffic, it is a combination of all the strategies that start to increase you web page rank.

Using article marketing as a single source will only provide one stream of traffic, despite the fact that you can submit to many many different article directories. The theory goes that if you submit to many article directories then you will get a large number of backlinks to your site and with all these backlinks many people will follow.

Once again this is a false assumption, unless the article site has alot of traffic then you are not going to get much traffic to your site, secondly many article sites use the no follow tag so your site will not get any link love and lastly even if the article directory is a highly respected directory, the page rank of the page where your article is will be very low(usually zero) so you will not get any page rank flowing from the article and as such it will not increase your page ranking…
